"what is the meaning of the "N" symbols on my stomach?
Everyone always asks me so I thought I would clear it up for everyone.
They are the international symbol for squatters rights. These symbols have been found in squats from the U.S., to Madrid, to Ireland and so on.
squatters are people who, like myself, find abandoned buildings, burnt down buildings, or spots of empty beach or woods and call them our homes.
Most cities have a vast abundance of abandoned buildings due either to them being condemned, or no one wants to buy them.
What squatters rights are for is this: It makes it possible for a squatter, after having occupied said building or property for a year or more, to go up to city hall and obtain the deed for said property.
This fixes two problems.
1. the abandoned building helps build back up the community by being fixed and occupied
2. the homeless person or squatter has a home.
Many people say "get a job" and pay bills like everyone else. well, when you are homeless it is VERY hard to obtain employment, much less a warm shower or new clothes to wear to a job interview. Who wants some dirty homeless guy (or girl) at a job interview if the interviewers can't even stand to sit in the same room with them because they stink so bad? no one. My point exactly. It's kind of a chicken or the egg situation.
Once a homeless person has a home, they can then start taking showers and bettering themselves.
I have been a squatter for the past 5 years and am very proud of this fact.
i've slept on rooftops, underneath lifeguard towers, burnt down buildings, bushes, not burnt down buildings, alleys, cars, vans, busses, and on top of busses to name a few.
I've hitch hiked around this country 8 times over, at least. I've hopped freight trains all over the country.
I travel around 20,000 miles a year and would like to keep it that way. It's fun when the only thing you have to think about every day when you wake up at sunrise is lets go fly a sign, spange (ask for spare change), make some money for booze, then when we are drunk enough, we make money for other things.
I didn't have to worry about food. I ask people carrying those white take out trays for their leftovers. # out of 5 times you get them kicked down to ya. we call this the white tray suprise special. you never know whats in those things! I've gotton fried calimari, sushi, chicken alfredo... all kinds of dank stuff.
People see a homeless girl like me sittin in an alley and they feel the need to kick me down some smoke sometimes. I think it's cause we're dirty. I guess i'll never know.
