Ever have one of those days where you tried to be sensitive about something and ending up being oversensitive, and it just made you sound insensitive... yeah. It's been one of those.
Today at training we role played, and I was the gay victim who was raped. During the skit I said I was "homosexual", which seemed to have irritated one of my friends at the training session. She couldn't have put it more bluntly when she told me that gays refer to themselves as "gay" or "queer", but never "homosexual". And I was taken aback. It took a while for me to sink it through, and all I could say was "oh....". And tried to shake it off with a smirk, which made me seem like a jerk or I can imagine....
Live and learn. Sorry if I offended any gay men or gay women. Didn't mean to. My best friend is bisexual.
Well, at least everybody else in the room who saw me error will have no doubts now to my own sexual orientation. lol
