Living is the act of making oneself. Getting tattooed is the act of making one's skin. We can't live fully without accepting & moving past mortality. Death is a big change we practice for in every little change we experience. The death tarot card speaks of ending, rebirth, new beginning. Tattoos are a way to exp major change & practice death's transformative power. So to people who say I mar my body with ink, this is how I create and recreate myself, to die and be born again as art without fear.

This is very true. While I remain untattooed at the moment I did have a brush with death a couple years ago. Knowing I can die and knowing how fragile this existence is has lead me to changing my body through diet and exercise.
