I. Am. SOOOO. The dork.

I used to be this HUGE tornado buff. Seriously. I wanted to be a storm chaser when I was seven, then again when I was 12. See, when I was a wee youngun living in Michigan, I used to live in a trailer park. Albiet a nice one. There was an assembely at school one day, think it was about the end of March, into April - when tornado season starts in MI. A meteorologist from a major affiliate in Toledo, Ohio came up to our school (Niedemeijer Elementary) to explain to us (the entire school) about severe weather and tornadoes. I remember he showed some clips of tornadoes and I was completely awestruck, I thought that was the coolest thing I had ever seen in my life. After that, I begged my mom to take me to the library so I could check out books on tornadoes, and ransacked our little bitty school library looking for books on the subject.

That lasted about a month.

Few years later, I went to the premiere of TWISTER. My dad had grounded me from going out, but took me to see the movie because I had just broken my arm and was miserable. Everything that I had felt in that assembely came back tenfold while watching TWISTER. Yeah, I know the tornadoes in that are CGI, but I didn't really care. I got back into them severely (no pun intended), spent my entire summer learning about different cloud formations, writing daily weather changes in a journal, pretty much making The Weather Channel my best friend. 7th grade hit, and though I caught a lot of shit for wanting to be a storm chaser, I bought this book, "TWISTER: The Science of Tornadoes and the Making of An Adventure Movie." That book was my bible for a good two years. I still have that book. It's old, falling apart, I've taped it back together so many times...but I can't get rid of it. I love that book. I still love tornadoes, even though I've never seen one up close - and probably never will, considering my geographical location.

This all being said, I feel like a total idiot for not keeping up on the season this year and just now hearing about the storms that ripped through Illinois last week. (If there are any of you who were involved or know someone who was involved in those storms - my condolences.) Normally, shit like this doesn't get past me, and I document everything. I'm so far behind. Meh.

I should say this: if you're in Texas right now, STOP READING THIS AND GET IN A FUCKING BASEMENT!

And to put the icing on the cake of dorkdom: I present to you the name list for the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season.

Fact: the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is on September 10th. Hmmm...maybe that's why I have such a furious temper streak....
