OK, I just spent 17 minutes on the phone with Louise Quirk of FEMA. She's been by my apartment complex and reports that there is only minimal damage and no evidently broken windows. That's one less thing to worry about.

Now all I need to find out is if my cats survived, and if they did, will they survive Hurricane Rita? And for that matter will Rita finish off what Katrina left of my home? Worry, worry, worry.

In other news, I got treated for free at the Vanderbilt walk-in clinic in Franklin. (One of the few benefits of being a refugee, I guess.) They gave me scrips for Xanax (which I'd run out of, and can't contact my doctor in NO to call in a refill) and for Atarax, which will, with luck, make my major allergy problems of being in the mid-south in summer a thing of the past. I am in the midst of enjoying a cocktail of these drugs along with a bottle of Smirnoff Twisted V Raspberry and a cherry Djarum. Then, sleep.

I'm still homesick like a motherfucker, though. Having one's home dragged out from under one's feet is not an experience I'd wish on my worst enemy (if I had any enemies, that is, which I don't).
