So I still haven't heard back from HSUS about the kitties, but I expect they're pretty busy. I hope they can get to them. Barring that, I hope at least that they were able to escape through a broken window or something. I feel awful about this whole situation, even more than the prospect of losing my home. You just can't replace life. Sweet kitty life.

I bought a laptop this morning. An HP Pavilion ze2000. So now I at least have something to occupy my time. I've been sitting on the deck behind my parents' house for the past five hours setting it up just so, and I'll be using it for work tonight, as my vacation ends at 00:00 Friday morning. This area of Spring Hill is prepetually under construction, along with all the associated noises made by heavy construction machinery. To that end, I've been ripping all the non-burned (i.e., store-bought) CDs I have on hand into Ogg Vorbis so I can drown out the grinding and pounding coming from not far away with a set of headphones. I bought a headset, actually, so I can use Skype while I'm here, but they work just as well for listening to music.

Today is my dad's fifty-seventh birthday. Happy birthday, dad! Too bad you have to spend it at work in Kentucky.

I hope everything's going well with the clean-up in New Orleans. I want so badly to go back, but... well, you know. It's just not possible right now. There has been talk amongst the upper management of my employer that they're going to move to another city after NO is cleaned up; I will probably move with them, wherever they choose to go. I've had this job for five years, and coupled with all the recent stress, I'm very unenthisuastic about having to interview for, much less find, new jobs. It's not a bad job by any stretch of the imagination, as I mostly get to define my own hours (as long as they fit within a certain time bracket), I have unlimited flextime, and I get paid enough to live above the poverty line. So I can't really complain. I wonder where I'll end up by this time next year.

Also, thank you all for all your well wishes and blessings and the like. They really mean a lot to me, and you've all reaffirmed my initial thoughts that you'd make good friends when I first met, in person or otherwise, each of you. I hope you're all doing alright, too.

I feel kind of the same way about my job.
Happy birthday to your dad! The past two years, I've been on business travel on my birthday. frown
Best wishes.
