I woke up yesterday and my parakeet Nix was sickly. She was fluffed up all over and really weak. I put her in my hand and she could barely stand. She jumped up to take flight but she just fell to the ground. When I picked her up, she tried to bury herself between my arm and chest. I knew something was really wrong. Unfortunately the closest avain vet is in Fredericksburg. So, hoping Nix just had a bound egg, I put her cage in my bathroom, turned off the lights and ran a hot shower to increase the humidity. I checked on her every few minutes, trying not to disturb her. I heard the phone ring and left her alone again. I walked back into the bathroom a few minutes later and Nixie had died. She had fallen from her favorite perch after she died. And that's how I found her, lying motionless on the bottom of her cage. Poor little thing. I'm glad I was home all of yesterday and got to be with her when she went. I love Nix and I know she loved me. She's been with me since I moved into my apartment. I miss her very much already. Goodbye Nix, I love you.
