I couldn't sleep and was feeling rather down, so I thought I'd just let my fingers do the talking this morning. Enjoy and let me know what you think: whether or not I should keep going.

She's late

"After fifteen minutes of waiting, this was getting ridiculous. Mike had cleared out the better part of his afternoon to meet with Kayla, and of course she wasn't there on time. He sat outside of a corner bistro, sipping his coffee and thumbing through a magazine he had picked up at the barber's that morning. Needless to say none of the articles kept his attention and instead kept glancing at from his watch to the corner of the street and back again, hoping that each passing second would renew the possibility of her arrival. It did not.

Mike looked at the clock on his phone. "2:17" it said. Another five minutes and I'm gone. He had been telling himself that for the past ten minutes. Giving her a second and third chance, seemed to ease the pain slightly, but only until the hourglass ran out again. It was becoming ridiculous. It seemed as if every few days or so they would make plans and then at the last minute she would break them. An emergency came up, a friend needed her help, her cat got out of her building. He could fertilize the lawn with all the bullshit he received from her, but it didn't matter. His anger was temporary and it wouldn't be until the next day when he would pick up the phone and try again. This endless cycle stemmed out of one universal fact: Mike was a nice guy.

Ever since he was in high school, Mike was regarded as the "nice guy." The one who would go out of his way for a stranger and not ask for a thing in return. While he reaped the rewards for his selflessness in his youth, as he grew older it seemed to bite him in the ass more than anything. Women would since this character flaw and expose it for what it was: a free date and an empty memory by morning."
