Things I Hate, Volume VI:
18) Typing with one hand.
19) Having to do right-hand stuff with my left hand.
20) HMO's. What should have been a simple trip to a orthopedist was turned into a Kafkaesque nightmare when I discovered that the orthopedist I was referred to by the ER is not covered under my plan. So I had to find another orthopedist, which meant that I had to first set a needless appointment with my PCP. Of course, the problem with that is that the PCP I had listed was someone I had never seen before, who I listed on my enrollment form for lack of a familiar doc who was covered by Cigna. I tried to set a referral appointment with her, and was told that she couldn't do a new patient appointment until Friday. So I had to find a PCP who could see me sooner, set an appointment with them, then switch my PCP over with Cigna retroactive to 6/1, then find an orthopedist and set an appointment with them. So I had a meaningless appointment today for the formality of a referral, which cost me a $20 copay, and don't get to see my orthopedist till tomorrow - for another $20. Fuckers.
21) The American healthcare system. See #20. I also have issues related to my mom's battle with cancer, which I will go into when I have two hands to type with.

So anyway, saw my PCP today, and he was pretty positive. Told me that the fracture didn't look that bad, and certainly not as bad as Baylor-ER-med-student was telling me. He said I might only need a splint, but even if it ends up being a cast, my wrist will probably be free, which will enable me to work at least. And he said that 6 weeks was going a bit overboard. Hopefully the orthopedist I see tomorrow will concur. Wish me luck, folks. And thanks again for all your support.

Before I started law school, I was a "managed care coordinator" for a surgical practice. I know far, far more about health insurance than anyone rightfully should. And I can verify from a professional perspective that Cigna sucks. You're lucky, actually, that you found a PCP able to see a new patient so quickly. Feel better!
