so i've got a few hours in the istanbul airport before schmelectra and i head off for the southwestern coast of turkey, and lo and behold! they have free internet! and it's pretty fast! yay for me!

turkey is pretty rad. it's hot. like woah hot. i've been consuming at least 2 liters of water a day to counteract the massive amount of ass sweat i have been producing. also, i noticed that my own personal hygiene standards are falling. showers are still pretty much a daily occurrence, but clothing is not so much 'clean' or 'dirty', but 'does it smell worse than the people that i might be standing next to in a confined space'. and since the answer is usually 'well, no!', i'm more willing to wear clothing multiple times.

the food is pretty interesting. lots of meat. but nary a rasher of bacon to be found. silly muslims. if only they ate bacon, we'd all get along so much better.

the people are fantastic. schmelectra is a minor celebrity here. everywhere we go she gets comments on her tattoos. most people react pretty favorably, but every now and again she gets the evil eye. all the turkish men want to be me, to have such a hot, tatt'ed up lady. well, if only they knew.

aside from the constant staring and comments on her tattoos, the people are super nice. we were lost trying to get the grand bazaar in istanbul yesterday, and some kindly old men not only helped us figure out where we were, they also offered us tea and a seat to rest our weary, sweaty bones in front of their fabric store. it was nice.

all in all, i like this place. not sure if i would ever want to live here, but it's a fantastic place to visit.
