My problem with the logic of the movie is more a question about motives. If you had the power to take over your section of town why would you STAY a hooker? I'd think you'd find a better way to make money but I could be confused - it may be there's just no OTHER way for a woman to make money in that particular milieu and not having read the comics I don't have the whole backstory.
