Why hello! This is my first entry, a few days after joining SG. This is a great site. Those of you who are reading my journal should check the place out.
I've decided to make my entry now because I think things are going to start happening in my life and I want to have a record of it. Maybe a year from now I'll look back at this entry and say "boy, I was really on track there," or "that wasn't right at all!" A valuable learning experience regardless.
So, what happened today?
First of all, I'm in the center of a big decision about what I should do over the summer. I have a few options. One is to travel to China and use my developing skills in technical writing (my major at the University of Minnesota) to do some teaching. I could count this as an internship, which is required for my major. I have a family friend in China so it's not totally out of the question. Difficult, perhaps, but outrageous, no way. Another option is to go to Florida and work under someone I know as a computer consultant. He offered me $40/hour to work under him. I could help him set up and fix people's computers, which would get me some valuable experience.
What else? Well there's always the option of just staying put. I could look for a summer internship here in Minnesota, and do that. Any of the above options would be great, I just have to do a lot of thinking and figuring to get them to work. If I'm going to Florida, I'll have to find someone to rent out my share of my duplex so I don't have to pay $1000 or so in rent for a place I'm not even living in.
Another thing I did today was decide to get more active during my free time. I spend a LOT of time at the computer. Way too much to be healthy. I have lost weight in the past few months because I'm living on my own and I don't have access to huge amounts of food, but I'm sure it's not healthy to be eating very little and exercising very little. So tonight I'm gonna walk home from work instead of taking the bus. That's about three miles, and it'll take me about an hour. No problem, and a great way to get some exercise in.
The other thing about the computer is I think I'm gonna sell it. It's a really nice one; I spent a lot of money buying all the parts for it and putting it together. But I think the reason why I'm spending too much time with it is because it's too appealing. So I think I'll sell this monster and use the cash to get a much more humble computer just for chatting, music, and SuicideGirls (of course), and use some of the extra cash for an iPod to keep me company when I go for walks. And I plan on walking a whole lot more.
Oh well, that's about all I have time to write about. I'm almost done at work so I better start packing up and heading out. Bye!
