MOVIE REVIEWS BY ASTROKREEP!
(insert applause here)

This Week: THE MATRIX : RELOADED

I am always terrified when I see the sequel to a movie that I love. I am scared that the next installment will suck, and as a conscequence ruin the idea of that particualr movie world, thus ruining the first movie in the process. And who could blame me or call me irrational when Hollywood is sending an ending barrage or dissapointing seconds our way. Every film from Jurassic Park 2 and 3 to Charolette's Web 2: Wilburs Big City Adventure. It hurts to think about sometimes.
But I digress.
Having been most pleases with the sequels Two Towers and Xmen2 I could not help feel as if I was pushing my lukc when I hoped and expected this movie to be good. I remember long ago when Ron Howard described Episode One before it had been released. "Your jaw will hang open for a week." It didn't believe you me. However those words would very acurrately describe THIS movie. We all know when things are special effects, so it tends to make them less special in our mind. However this movie manages to pull off such a high degree of complexity and style with its visuals that one can not help but look dumbfounded at the screen feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. The action scenes are easily some of the best, and I am tempted to say THE best, of all time. And I think this is very important to this film because walking out of the theatre I could hear that most people had no idea what they had just scene, where they were, or how they got there. There were even a few foolish people who had attempted to view this film without watching its predecessor first. I will strongly reccomend watching the first one first, if you haven't already I don't want you coming to my journal anymore either by the way. People with heart conditions and/or pregnant should also avoid the latter half of this film.
People have accussed this movie of having dialog only to string action scenes together. While the dialog is somewhat roundabout at points, it is certainly no empty space between kicks and punches. And if it seems roundabout its because it largely consists of people asking questions and getting questions for answers. Such is the nature of philosophical approach to the questions of "What is real?" and "Does choice exist?" The second one being a major theme in this film. I do however believe that the writers are not who the credits tell us they are. I have a sneaking suspicion that these films were penned by John Woo and Lao Tzu durring two seperate acid trips. The second of which was the resulting from a deep dissapointment that people actually got the first one. This movie is trying to mess with your head. And it does a good job. The strange back and forth motions between Intense Action and Philosophy 154 leave one rather dissoriented by the end of the film. Of course there is little time to notice such things when you're trying to keep track of the new questions this movie opens up and the plot twists it throws at you. This movie is, and forgive me for using these words, A non stop action ride that will leave you breathless! There I said it. I'm going to go take a shower now to get the dirt off..
