well, my cooking class is a bit of a wash so far. i mean, i guess it IS called Basic Cooking, which means we learned how to boil eggs, cut up salad greens (i thought it came in a bag??), and bake cookies. sigh.
for the cookie-making, i got paired with a 40-something, bewildered-looking guy named neil. "wow," said neil as he jabbed futilely at a block of butter with a spatula, "i normally eat off paper plates so i don't have to wash dishes. this is quite something!"
later, neil held up a measuring cup half full of flour and called to me from across the kitchen.
"aster!" he said, "how much flour?"
i thought, fuck, this poor man really needs help.
"umm, just look on the side of the, uhh, cup," i told him, suppressing a snicker.
"no, i mean, how much flour does the recipe ask for?"
OOPS. i'm such a bitcherella!
