Ugh. Back from H-town.
Ok, here's the short version...
My honey's right eye was injured in Korea while in the army. Some idiot hit a track on a tank with a sledgehammer and a tiny piece of metal was lodged in his right eye. He was blinded immediately.
It was 1998 - he was 21.
Fast forward to today...
Yesterday he had his eighth and final surgery on the eye. It was removed.
There is an implant that will eventually, after a couple of months, contain a prosthesis.
He is in quite a bit of pain even with the Vicodin (which I think is a joke med for a surgery of this magnitude)
He can't use his left eye right now either because it exascerbates the pain on the right side, so he is effectively 'blind' until the pain diminishes.
He's only 29.
OH - and the best part - five years after the injury the army sent him/us a bill for fifteen thousand dollars - the amount they claim that he was overpaid while on his initial leave. We fought it for a year (yes, congressman AND governor got involved) and had to pay it anyway.
Yep. That's your government.

is his eye going to be ok?? has he lost some of his vision because of it?? that really sucks ! someone out there serving our country and the gov fucks him!!! pisses me off
