Just heard about #BellLetsTalk, which hones in on mental health, and it struck home for me. I say, and people often assume I'm joking, that I barely made it out of my twenties alive, but it's a defective statement. The fact is I ranged between depressed and outright suicidal for a good ten years and I'm lucky to still be here, and I know how lucky I am.
I lost a friend during that time. I don't discuss her much.
In honor of the #BellLetsTalk discussion, I've posted an old short story from my twenties over on my site. It's absolutely nothing like the superhero work I do now, but back then I was chasing a whole breed of darker demon I didn't quite understand. This was written to process the loss of a good friend. I thought, for a lot of reasons, it might be helpful to post it here as well.
