While I'm whining there's something I'd like to kvetch about. I'm posting it here because I'm really not looking for controversey. Just venting. I went to the archived/unarchived thread to pay my respects to she who must not be named and I read through the Waz firestorm. In my opinion the main argument was neither here nor there. What I want to comment on is how many SGs commented that people shouldn't feel entitled to shit just because they pay $4 a month. That's a weak ass argument. We all put a hell of a lot more than just $4 a month into this site. Sure, I signed up to look at the naked ladies, but that just got me in the door. I spend 95% of my time here on the boards and I don't think I'm alone. A person can only masturbate so much, after all. So what does my $4 buy me? The right to mutely look at pictures of naked ladies. My active participation in this community though? Well I don't know. I do know that without people like Waz livening this place up I wouldn't spend an iota of the time I do spend here.

Also, I think that the SGs' argument doesn't apply to those of us who do contribute actively, on the boards and in the groups. But I think those people are probably a pretty small fraction of the paying membership (which seems to be a state secret; not so much as a hint is ever revealed).
Still, I don't remember anyone claiming SG was democratic, or representative.
I agree, this place wouldn't be nearly as interesting if it wasn't for the kinds of people it attracts. And a lot of interesting people have gotten themselves zotted over the years. But that's the way they've chosen to take the site, and as it is their property, we can stay and pay or take our money elsewhere. And if they drive off people and make the site boring, they'll pay for it when everyone else stops commenting and the site stops being interesting (and stops drawing in as many people). But yeah, that's why I mainly try to avoid such things; it doesn't go anywhere, and it's just depressing.
