After working with narrative/realism in my scribblings for as long as i can remember. I woke up one day disgusted with where my work was and where it was headed. Initially I couldnt figure out why, after all I sell enough stuff, people like it, and it was pretty cool stuff. Then it dawned on me that it was the "cool" that was killing the work. I was hiding behind the inherent impact of the figure. the basic formula was:
hot chick+arcane symbolism+mysterious title=cool art
the problem is that the paintings/drawings had no resonance (for me at least) So i decided to remove the crutch from my work and make images without the figure. The new challenge was is to make narritive works without the figure(which is pretty tricky) There has been alot of experimentation but i'm in a place, where making art is exciting again.
the scary part comes in may when my exhibit opens and the people who have supported me along the way see things that are different than what they're used to seeing from me.

I'm going to hunt down that gallery this weekend. I definitely need to stop passing up on shops - miss out on good stuff.

How many paintings do you have to have before you can do an exhibit? I'm ignorant.
