The crazy things you learn when you are at home for 5 days with the flu. So in my boredom (and there was plenty of boredom over the last week) I decided to take a look at the Emmys site and see who won the 'little awards'. You know the ones they don't show on the show. Well what a shock it was to see that Jimmy Kimmel's "I'm Fucking Matt Damon" song/sketch won 2 awards. Best Original Song & Best Editing (Talk Show).

I guess it shows the Emmy voters know good comedy when they see it ... too bad the producers of the actual awards show don't. I know on paper having a Laugh-In reunion sounds like comedy gold but you can't tell me there wasn't time to pull the whole segment after the first rehearsal. What a fucking train wreck. Were they serving double shots in the green room or something? I feel sorry for Lilly Tomlin for having to be on stage during it.

Steve Martin's segment with Tommy Smothers are great though. With his long stretch of less than thrilling movies it's easy to forget that in his prime Steve Martin was one of the best stand up comics ever. It was also nice to see Tommy Smothers finally get his Emmy. As a fan of the art of comedy I grew up a fan of the Smothers Brothers, whether it was there more controversial political humour or silly 'Mother always liked you best' stuff.
