Now that I am on my own and aging,
I am prying at the dry embryo
that I emerged from twenty years ago,
trying to crawl in and zip it up
from the inside like a sleeping bag.

Now I am jealous that babies get to
curl up and suckle their mother's
full breasts; babies will be forever
feeding and I will be forever birthed.

I should not be ready like an oyster
to be filled with sand.



I am wondering who will decide I am crazy when it comes to that. Or who will tell me I am not going to be a poet, of course I tell myself everyday. I think I need to masturbate more or something. I can't wait to be back in Santa Fe, New York is a bitter cold city. I need more recent pictures of myself.
