I'm slowly restructuring and repopulating the main ARTandWATER website with stuff that is sooooooo obviously "art" and "water"
It's been a bit of a hodge podge mix that I decided to make the more "high brow" art live in a different place;
not for the sake of non artists, but more so the art snobs don't have to get their minds dirty actually thinking about all that gray area between Art (big A) and art (small a). With all that's been done, oh how disappointed and amused Duchamp would be.
(it appears that we can still accept playfulness only if it is intellectualized trickery)
The first salvo in this restructuring is a suite of drawings? paintings? that question that which so angers me: the distinction between "high" and "low" art. In my mind, there is not "high" or "low"
http://artandwater.100waves.com/contactsheets/wwgestureacrylic.html
alone, the gesture drawings are nice quick drawings (oh I don't want to use the word "sketch" right now)
alone, the acrylic paintings are mad expressions of a western imitation of eastern ink drawings whos focused intensity is destroyed by spastic western, childish exhuberance.
Juxtapose the gesture drawings and the whole thing is cheapened in the eyes of a snob because the two visual languages are not supposed to mix.
As always, I like to sum it up with some true insight.
Fuck it. The 21 pieces really ARE what I felt, and how I want to express this dance of water and emotion.
