Change is Simple, not Easy

Once again, here I am, sitting in front of my computer in the early hours of the morning after some continued reading. Of course, once again I’m reflecting on a recent read. As the title states one very short and simple remark has me reflecting and contemplating things: Change is simple, not easy.

When we think about thing to change sometimes, we envision great big ideals, world changing things. Stop racism, dissolve political conflicts, world peace, unite the masses, lower taxes…. While these are simple requests, they are incredibly difficult to do and accomplish. So, let’s make them smaller, baby steps?

For me, I made some changes this year that are as you guessed it, not easy! I wanted to better my job. Yeah, my employment is no easy task and I have seen so many people come and go both professionally and as patients. I wanted to like most millennial children to make a difference, to believe we had the power to make a difference in the world and people we meet. To get an education, utilize it for the good we were told it could do and to be in general a better generation than the many before. That is a very simple thought, but the execution of it is far more infuriating and difficult than I, we, ever imagined. Convincing older generations of the list above that, indeed, the world is broken is bewildering. Educating people that the world has a lot of amendments to make to the LGBTQ community, despite how uncomfortable it is. That the political system is, and always has been incredibly and horrendously corrupted and needs redone and of course, people need to be properly compensated for the work, education, and dedication they serve to their communities with a wage that doesn’t force you to choose between rent or groceries. Anyway, those are really big thoughts for a not so big blog…..

Making these big problems smaller, and understanding the change is simple, just not easy. We want to be healthier, and we know the rules, we just also really like cheeseburgers, shakes and all the things loaded with sugars and salts. Because, duh, French fries are amazing! But, in moderation they are good, just not every day. If you want better health, we need to start small, set a certain goal. Instead of eating out 5 times a week, make it three, then make it two, and lets be honest, it doesn’t really get much lower than that unless you are a maniac with a vendetta….. Time is a thing and sometimes the drive thru is better! I’m guilty! It’s a simple task, just not easy.

Sometimes we want a romantic partner but despite our efforts it doesn’t happen. Well, what makes people avoid us? It’s a simple thing to want someone to want us, that’s simple, but we are also humans and with that comes crippling anxiety, depression and a whole sock drawer of traits that make us hard to be around. That’s just life… Unfortunately, we can’t make others want us as bad as we want them, and we simply must make those changes in ourselves to appear or develop into a more friendly or attractive person that draws people in. It’s simple to want that but changing into those people is a process and takes a lot of deep-down thinking and criticism to take to heart.

I guess the big thing on this to stress is nothing is instant no matter how bad we want it. We want a great job but sometimes it takes years of doing crappy jobs, for crappy pay, to finally get an OPPORTUNITY to get something better. Not promised, but a simple opportunity. We want love but it takes dozens of fails dates and fewer serious relationships to find the person that plays well with our own inner demons. Physical health is so temporary but if you can work it in your favor while you can, or just be happy with how it is in the moment you can find so much confidence in yourself that you never knew you had!

Best regards from my mind to yours, change is simple, not easy. So, find your way to any change you’re seeking out there.
