Well, my efforts to convert my latest publication to Amazon Kindle format is going poorly -- I once attempted another book and had pretty much the same problem, which is namely that illustrations come out looking like total crap. Maybe I'll try putting it up on Lulu instead, see if that goes better.

I have no experience of Kindle, but I do notice that the illustrations in my iBooks copy of Pooh are certainly muddy. While this is at first a bit surprising for devices that are supposed to be so wonderfully graphics friendly (the iPad, anyway), but on second thought it may not be so strange that the book-dedicated applications have been really focused primarily on rendering text.
Allegedly the latest iBooks app is specifically meant to address illustrations. Frankly, the Pooh drawings still look a bit muddy to me, but maybe I'm just unrealistically picky. In any case, if iBooks has moved to specifically address illustration quality, will Kindle be far behind? I suspect not. The ebook wars are too hot for Kindle to leave the field for such advances to Apple only.

I would say this definitely qualifies as "weird."
It's amazing how boring it is, trying to translate costume design instruction. Then about 1/3rd of it needs to be left in French anyway -- the perruque la brigadiere, the robe l'anglaise, the habit la franaise, the fichu, and many other terms never seem to have developed true English equivalents.
Weird fact: how my books are priced rarely seems to effect their sales. Several of the poor sellers I tried to lower the price on, and it didn't seem to improve that at all.
Perhaps that means I should just charge $40 for that Marriage la Mode by John Dryden. Then I only need to sell 2 copies to make back my money!...

Poor Francis Scott Key was not much of a poet. One hopes he was a better lawyer. In his defense one can note that he wasn't imagining that he was penning the National Anthem. He just thought it was another disgorgement of his usual schlock. The less than melodious and syntactically challenged language wasn't even contemporary in his own day. How it became the National Anthem involves dubiously illustrious names such as Woodrow Wilson and Herbert Hoover. At least Truman could play an instrument. So it goes.

December 3rd and I have only one Christmas gift left to buy before I am done with all necessary shopping. The last person I need to find something for is my grandpa. All he likes are guns and cigars. Perhaps I can find some novel method of combining the two into a cigar shaped like a gun, or something.
