Why?
Aren't there more intelligent Southern Women on tv? The most popular nowadays are along the lines of Trishelle, from the Real World, Jessica Simpson, and Anna Nichole Smith. Gays, lesbians, and African Americans have been able to widen their portrayls in the media beyond stereotypes, but southern women, as a whole, are still stuck in the Daisy Duke/Ellie Mae Clampette mold.
The Celluloid Closet is pretty good. I got KITE ,Bad Education and House of Flying Daggers a few days ago, and have BE, Oceans Twelve, and En La Ciudad (In the City) now. KITE was, well, violent. By violent I mean too much concentrated violence for a 45min set. I liked the Kill Bill series, and would take a movie that had karate, samurai sword fights, and people flying out of buildings over a "chick flick"
anyday, but KITE fell into the trap that alot of movies fall into-get so caught up in showing close-ups of exploding guts and abandon creating any plot and character depth. In KITE, a girl named Sawa, has been taken in by two police officers after her parents are murdered. They train her to be an assasin, and use her to kill high profile celebrities (who turn out to be pedophiles). On a dual job, she meets another young assasin, they fall in love, and plan their escape from their handlers. What I don't understand , besides skimming across the c&p, is the head police officer's role.

House of Flying Daggers amazed me with its cinematography, costuming, and soundtrack-less so with its choreography and plot. If you want the total package, watch Hero first.
Of the movies I've watched, I'd definitely get the soundtracks for BE and HFD. Stunning.
