I saw Maria Kizito Friday night. It was about a Rwandan nun who let Tutsis and Hutu moderates into her convent, and then let soldiers, policemen, and neighbors in to to slaughter them with machetes (she even provided the gasoline to burn 500 of them alive with). She was put on trial in Belgium for the murder of 7,000 people, and ended up only serving 12 years in jail there. "Death is most capable of reproduction" indeed. I thought it was amazing that with a cast of seven they recreated what happened, and actually made it believable. Some of the lines I was like, what the...? But some were actually , not to sound cliche, bordering on Shakespearean. The theater was very small, so you could see if the performers had an eyelash in their eye (7 stages is divided into two stages so two different performances can play at one time). They did have a variety of props, most of which ended up on the floor. At the end of the first act, the stage was strew with dead paper and chalk people, fake vomit, chains, milk, and raw bloody hamburger and liver, flour, and fake beer. Afterward, I went and got a slice of pizza as wide as my head and a salad at Little Five Points Pizza. I didn't get back to campus until 1 though, because of Marta. I'm definately going to a matinee the next time. I might go back to l5P this week to get these massive, Angels in America type wings for Halloween.
