Some believe in destiny/some believe in fate/I believe that happiness is something we create.

Something More*

I'm almost done with my application to SIT. I've applied to the Islamic Diaspora in Europe as my first choice and Moroccan Culture and Society with Intensive Arabic as my second choice. They're summer programs that last around a month and a half, which gives me plenty of time to get my application in. The first program takes place in France, Germany, and The Netherlands. Why spend my Christmas money on takeout food and porn (well, all of it any way) and spend my summer listening to my mother's conservative rants, locked in my room watching DVDs on a five inch screen? I was accepted to go to Benin with ASC.... I want to go to sub-Saharan Africa, but I have a chance to study something I've been waiting nearly six years to study. Damn ASC and it's non-existence of African and Middle Eastern political science courses. I hate having to choose like this, but I'm excited as well.

My father said he had turned in my transcripts to UWis but he didn't, so I'm trying to wrap that up (the colleges in SC -at least from my experience require written permission to release transcripts, moreover they like you to make the request in person and are quite inflexible about the matter). At OC tech transcript release is on delay due to spring registration. It took 35 minutes to get my highschool transcript for UWis, the day before, I requested a personal copy and it only took 10 minutes. Le sigh. They built an entirely new annex to the high school. I was half hoping to see my old history teacher and my bio teacher, I wonder if they're even at the school any more.

I did see my semester grades. I have a 3.333 for the semester and I've bumped my GPA up to a 2.64. I had an A in Intro to Fiction, a B+ in Hebrew Bible and B's in Postcolonial Literature and Politics of Mass Media.

I still have yet to have my wisdom teeth removed, and need to test this week for my license. Tuesday I "borrowed" the car and practiced three point turns in the Buick. My parking (regular)seems to have gone wonky though, I need to brush up on that. I can parallel park that big hunk of steel like a mofo though. I need to practice on rural roads though, since I'm testing in Marion and not Orangeburg.

* Strange, I've been listening to country lately...and liking it. I may be on to something here smile

Mmmm, GPAs and applying to schools. Something I've been putting off way too long. Your choices sound pretty exciting though! shocked

In response to my journal post, I write about half fiction and half non-fiction, although even most of my fiction is heavily drawn from life and then maybe set in a different state or era or something. I guess I like to pretend I'm David Sedaris or Lynda Barry. smile

yeah, the aquarium is definitely a treat. it's very relaxing too. it puts you in a soothing mood.

good luck with all of your school app's. you seem like a pretty intelligent gal. I am sure your studies will take you far wink .

lastly, I think that happiness has numerous definitions. I think it's a state of mind that each of us do create. I don't think it's a way of life, though. I think that happiness can be achieved on many levels and via many different ways. what's happy for one person, may not be happy for another.
cheers smile !
