My migraines/mixed headaches rule my life. My doctor has me on FMLA (in the States, that's how chronically sick people's jobs are protected), my bosses arrange schedule changes to keep them at a minimum. They can't fix them--I've had them in one or another incarnation since 2nd grade, and I've had every test known to neurology, so we just try different medications.
I totally get what you mean about your friend's dog--sometimes you just need a dog fix!
I couldn't stand living without any pets, though. I guess growing up with them made me think a place with a pet is a home and one without is a dorm.

I bet you'd want to watch it though if the pool was only 3ft deep lol
