Today is Sunday night. Yesterday was my band's first gig. The band's name is Crash Fault, horrible name, I know, I wasn't even there when they named it, but oh well. Anyways, it's me playing bass, Dylan and Mexican on guitar, Tim on drums, and Cody singing. It's basically our old band, Dark Skies, which was Cody, Mexican, Me, Tim, and Zach just that Zach was replaced with Dylan. Everything works so much better with Dylan playing rather than Zach.
Anyways, this was our first gig, and I must say that it was by far the shadiest gig that I've ever played. We get to the spit where we are supposed to be playing (which was outside on a street corner) and there is no tarp or tent or anything set up. There are no extension chords, no power strips, nothing. So basically we all have to hussle and do everything possible to burrow chords and everything to use. We go to Dylan's aunt's house to ask about the tarp, and she said that it wasn't supposed to rain that day and that we wouldn't need it. It definitely starts raining! So, we're throwing hoodies on our amps and stuff to keep them dry. We end up going back to Dylan's aunt's house and have to put the tent up ourselves. This takes about an hour. We were supposed to get paid, didn't end up getting paid at all. We were also supposed to get free ice cream all day long. We go to the ice cream stand, order the ice cream, and then we're asked "Is this all together?". Anyway, just when things were starting to look worse and worse and the rain was getting harder and harder, this guy asks us to play at the "Comedy House", which is actually a pretty huge thing. Anyways, the shady gig technically got ditched and we ended up playing indoors at the Comedy House.
So to recap... We get to the place we're playing, there are no power outlets, no extension cables, no power strips, nothing, not even a tent. Then, we don't get paid, we don't get free ice cream, it rains, noone really shows up.
It ended up turning out REALLY good though. The acoustics were great indoors and we hit every song almost perfectly without any major errors. I even got to play Rise Against's Swing Life Away with Cody our singer. It's the first time I actually played guitar in front of people at a gig, so I was SSSOOO scared that I would mess up. When I first started playing my fingers were shaking so bad, and I was so certain that even that was going to mess me up. I ended up playing it perfectly and it sounded great. We even played Scar Tissue perfectly which we were ALWAYS messing up on. Everything went so well.
We then went back to Fungus' and had a barbeque and played badminton. I even invited this hot chick to come and play with us, and she came. I actually just got done hanging out with her again today. (Maybe there still is a dying chance of a hope of my dating & social life). So all in all it was such a great night. The band hung out all day long and got really close and had tons of fun. We probably had more fun before and after the gig than we actually did during it. It felt really good to just hang out with the guys and just have tons of fun with them.
Cody has been talking about replacing Mexican with this kid that was at the gig. Apparently he's REALLY good at guitar and can sing at the same time as well. I love Mexican, and he's such a great kid, but he isn't the best at guitar, and we could definitely improve without him. He's the main thing that's holding us back from playing more difficult songs. If we got another really good guitarrist, I think that we could play just about any song. I'll probably end up starting a band besides Crash Fault with Mexican because we both like to play hardcore heavy stuff and Crash Fault definitely doesn't allow for any release for that. I also love to write songs and stuff, and I don't write any in Crash Fault except for my bass fills which seem to be every other note anyway.
I guess that there were a couple of bands there that really dug us, so we have the opportunity to get gigs with either of them. Which is definitely really cool. I'm going to be starting school soon, so I'm going to be working full time and going to school full time. I told Cody about it, and he was apparently cool with it, but I hope that he actually is. I told him that it was cool if he wanted me out of the band and stuff, but apparently he's willing to work with it.
My friend video taped the whole thing so I'll be sure to put pics up from the show so that anyone who cares can check it out!
