I called my sister last night to discover that her good friend, my host for spring break in the Twin Cities, is extremely sick. Somehow she managed to contract Lyme's Disease and Mono simultaneously. She's on so many antibiotics that she cannot eat without getting sick, and, as a result, can barely walk or stand from the lack of nutrients. Not good.

My sister, being as rad as she is, found me another place to stay: her friend Colon is sans a roommate right now, and so I'll get a bed. His place is on the corner of something-or-other and Fry(?), meaning that I'm really close to Coffee News, World's Greatest Coffee Shop. /cheer

Now, as I've mentioned before, my primary reason for trekking out to frozen Minnesota for vacation is to get my new ink. The plan? The Scale of Anubis. What the Hell is the Scale of Anubis? you ask. Here we go....

According to ancient Egyptian mythology, when a man dies he goes before Anubis, the Judge of the Dead and Keeper of the Afterlife. He removes their heart from their chest and places it upon a golden scale, opposite a single feather. If his heart is lighter than the feather, he is admitted to the afterlife; if it's not, his entirety -- body, mind, and soul -- are given to the Eater of the Dead and consumed. But, as Gaiman suggested in American Gods (I'm paraphrasing, here) "it's a heavy feather." My tattoo will show my heart as the lighter of the pair, of course.

I think this image/idea fits me well, and I'm very excited.

***

For those of you who're interested, here is my gameplan ~

Saturday, 26 February: Arrive in Minneapolis; go to Leviticus (and get tattooed if my requested time on Tuesday (7pm) was taken).

Tuesday, 1 March: Go to Leviticus and get tattooed; drink w/ Awesome?

Wednesday, 2 March: Arrive in Chicago; go to Logan Square and my twin's apartment.

Friday, 4 March: Arrive in Boston, doubtlessly jet-lagged; do coursework assigned for the break; start packing-up my apartment. (I'm moving to a much smaller place at the end of April, for the summer.)
velocity:
Tuesday works for me, assuming I'm Awesome. In fact, I was just about to tell you that Tuesday was the only day that would work for me, as I got roped into house sitting for the parents, which was among the reasons I punked out on you last time.

dogslife:
A friend of mine once tried to mail me a bottle of my favourite wine from a pub we used to frequent in grad school but the draconian liquor laws of this province made it impossible for him to even purchase a bottle from the pub.

What I'm saying is, I appreciate the thought. Thanks.
