Fucking Hell.
Friday my computer got all fucked up, something apparently got corrupted in Windows XP forcing me to re-install Windows and lose everything that was on my main hard drive. Fortunately I had a friend who was kind enough to come up from Warren, Ohio and help me re-install Windows from one of his disks. See, I bought my computer second-hand and I didn't have the original disk to install Windows again.
I lost MS Word, and can't replace it because MicroSoft makes you pay to install it. Even though I re-installed my scanner and my webcam, I don't know if either of them will work because guess what? For some reason my scanner won't connect and I haven't yet tested my webcam to see if it works. I'm too busy trying to recover stuff that I lost.
And what did I lose, besides everything? Well, fortunately I had a backup of my documents saved onto my backup hard drive. Unfortunately, I hadn't updated the backup files in months so anything and everything that was on my main hard drive is gone. Images, ones I had saved from here and other websites...gone. MS Word, as I said, gone. My bookmarks...saved on my backup hard drive but again, out of date so I have to go back and recover some of the links that were lost.
Much of what I lost cannot be recovered, or replaced, especially the images because the websites I took them from I either can't find or the images have since been removed. I'm having to go back and re-install everything from scratch. It sucks major portions of ass, to be sure.
I guess I shouldn't complain too much; at the very least, I have my backup hard drive with a lot of my stuff saved so not everything is gone. Just the programs (like WinZip and RAR) and other items that might have helped me in fhe search for a new job (like WinWay Resume and MS Word so I can update my resume). If anyone knows where I can get a free version of MS Word, please let me know. Thanks.
