If they are eternal their identity exists in the ethereal, which I do because I have weird dreams with my cats who were my babies who lived to be 20 years old from when I was a young teen. They talk to me and sometimes stand upright. Or there are like all sorts of cats that look like them, and I can identify which one has my babies spirit and not care about the others.
