Back from camping!
The place: MacGreggor Point Provincial Point.
A weekend of rain and not enough blankets. A great area once you get there, although the drive is nothing special up until about five minutes before we actually got to the park. Located west of Owen Sound, nestled into the glorious Lake Huron in Northern Ontario.
The lake itself was absolutely beautiful
And we spent several hours sitting in the sand surrounded by rocks starting tiny fires in holes and watching them slowly die. We are pyro's at heart
We walked two trails, the first was a circular trail called Huron Fringe Trail, a 1.5k trail, which was an entirely boardwalked trail circling around the wetlands of the area, showing off Turtle Pond and Ash Pond
As we walked along this beautiful trail (I love boardwalked trails), it began to rain - not horribly so, just enough that we could see the pretty rippling on the pond, and enough that made my camera lenses smudge
We headed back to the campsite for lunch of tasty veggie dogs (not so yummy) and then as the sun began to show his face, we left on our second hike of the day.
The Lake Shores Road Trail is a 6.7k trail that is unfortunately not a loop, so we had to turn back at the end of the 6k and wak another 8k back to camp.
This trail had some really beautiful points of interest like creeks and coves inside the Huron Interior
On our hikes throughout our time at Lake Huron, we came across many varieties of wildlife. On our list: Squirrels, hawks, robbins, chickadees, goldfinch, a skunk, a vole, a raccoon, and lots and lots of...
SNAKES!
They were awesome. We caught 3 of them, spotted at least 6 of them, and had two of them pee all over us.
Snake piss smells fucking disgusting. Just an FYI. Don't get it on your clothes if you're going snake hunting.
This was a really sweet rat snake we found just bathing on the path. She was actually really patient with us, and when we were finished photographing, and released her, she didn't move far or fast. And she didn't pee on us, which was an awesome bonus
It's a good thing Northern Ontatio doesn't have the Massassauga Rattler, else we may have caught a few of those, too. And not in the good way.
Next trip will be to Silent Lake in Northern Ontario I can't wait!

Owen Sound isn't really northern ontario... it;s more central Ontario...soon as you get past the French River you're in "Northern Ontario"
