Well as usual the National Day of Silence was wonderful. I made a shirt that said 'National Day of Silence' on the front and 'Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights. People who are silent today believe that laws and attitudes should be inclusive of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. The Day of Silence is to draw attention to those who have been silenced by hatred, oppression and predjudice. Think about the voices you're not hearing. What can you do to end the silence?' on the back. I will try to put up images, but I promise nothing.
Overall it was a good experience like it normally is. I got the normal razzing from my good friends who thought it was silly and I had some other good friends who thought it was totally cool that I was doing it. Ordering coffee at the Daily Grind was interesting... Autumn ordered for me, thank Goddess she knows what I normally drink. *laughs* The girl who made my coffee read my shirt and said that it made her happy that she woke up that morning. Made the whole day worth it.
I will say I kind of cheated from 5-6:15 I had a meeting for Avalon and I HAD to talk, the future editor can not sit there quietly while everyone else tosses out ideas! *laughs* I also spoke to customers at work and said one to two word phrases to people I worked with pertaining directly to work. However, I let them read my shirt before I changed into my work shirt so they would understand that I wasn't being curt with them.
Overall I think that the Day of Silence is a great protest, because not only does it show others that our being silent is tragic, it reminds up of how it used to be. In general I think the GLBT community has so many more freedoms than we did even twenty years ago (*laughs* When I was being born...) I think taking a day to silence ourselves and really see what it's like not to be able to speak up for yourself about anything is humbling in a way and it makes us grateful for what we do have. Don't get me wrong, we still have a long way to go and there are many things that we are being denied, but at least we can speak up for ourselves on a daily basis.

Okay, so I tried to put the pics up in the entry, but they were way too big so I put them up under my pics instead... check them out! kiss

Good for you! That's a very inspiring journal entry. The t shirt you made up was cool, too.
