he Decemberists show rocked SO HARD.
Even though I ended up going by myself since Emily and Max were defeated by the Oxford beast.
They would have hated it anyway, since I spent the better of two hours huddled in the rain waiting for return tickets because the show was sold out. There were about seven people ahead of me, and if someone came up offering a spare it immediatly went to the first person in line, not whoever grabbed it first. Which is a lot better than in America, I feel.
In line, the boy ahead of me was named Peta. You all thought I had forgotten about my goal, didn't you? Suckas. He was 24 and a social worker concentrating in child abuse cases. We have plans for tonight. W00t.
Everyone waiting in line with me was American, with the exception of Peta and one other guy. Isnt that weird? I guess The Decemberists really haven't picked up steam here, since it was their very first show in anywhere except America and Canada.
Once inside I immediatly wrung out my soaking sweater and got a beer, only to run into Caitlen, one of my best friends in middle school. It was totally a "what the FUCK?" moment, but awkward too, since we then decided we needed to "catch up" when clearly that wasn't really necessary.
I pushed my way to the very VERY front and center of the stage, and screamed and danced. They opened with that song, shit, I forget the name but it has that line "tell the tale of the Jewess and the Manderin Chinese Boy" and has the chorus "mother do not let your daughters walk the streets alone tonight". SO fucking perfect. Then it was Brother in Arms, Clementine, Legionare's Lament, Billy Liar, and a couple from their new album. For an encore it was I was meant for the stage and red right ankle.
Ariella, I sang red right ankle for us,
"and how he whispered
'oh adhere to me
for we are bound by symmetry.
Whatever differences our lives have been
we together make a limb"

I wanted to cry.
Also, Clementine was played as a country waltz and some girl grabbed me and we slow-danced our way through the crowd and got cheered. SO MUCH FUN.
After the show, I got to tell Colin and the girl accordian player that I briefly entertained thoughts of having a Decemberists cover band. They seemed impressed.
I love it.
Goddamn it, if only I didnt have SO much work to do today.
And tommorow.
And all this week.
shit. skull
fishwife:
i think i love you.
you want to start a decemberists cover band.

red right ankle....when i went to one of their shows in portland and saw how "red right ankle" could send a girl into an orgasmic state, i decided it needed to learn how to play it. it didn't take long. i'm just waiting for the correct moment.

do you know how to play the accordian?

oh, wow, i think i'm about to tear up....

i've seen the decemberists play several times, includeing several shows where i've rubbed elbows with the band members. colin came up right next to me and ordered the same kind of beer as me the night they played the last show at portland's Satyricon. i've also seen them multiple times at death cab for cutie shows, and a ...*ahem* morrisey show. oh, also, one time i was eating breakfast at this place called junior's and saw colin getting "recognized" by some dirty hippy kid...i was thinking about how lucky colin is i'm not like that every time i run into him.
