Unsolicited advice is definitely a mind bullet.

"Neighbor X" stopped by the ranch today, he's an old alcoholic WW II veteran who's still pissed off at Japan. When I saw him driving up I tried to "play dead", I turned off the stereo and hid in the bathroom. He walked in, sat down in my easy chair and started talking to me anyway.

He comes over because he's lonely, but he's not the nicest guest. He usually brings booze, a lot of it. And like so many alcoholics, he gets belligerent when he's high. And he tries to take a swing at me in retaliation for some petty slight, real or imagined. The last time he came over, he tried to break down the bathroom door while I was inside taking a dump.

The guy's a war hero but he's not exactly a hero figure. For example, he once confessed to murdering two motorcycle cops in San Diego 50 years ago. Is it true? I don't know. I don't believe half the things he says. He's an unapologetic racist. And he might be a latent homosexual. Which would be a tough break, because he's a homophobe of the bible-thumping variety.

He's been telling me he's dying of cancer for the entire six years we've been neighbors and he's still here. Shit, when I had cancer he told me I was going to die too. He actually tried to talk me into taking his surname so we could be buried side by side in his family's cemetery plot.

Yeah, so... he stopped by to ask me to look after his property. He said he's going back to San Diego "to end it all". He said he's tired of this life and he doesn't care anymore.

This is a textbook scenario for some sort of moral dilemma. What would you do?

I told him "Vaya con dios." He left me the key to his house and then got up without looking at me, walked out to his truck, and drove away.

That's 65 years of battle for what end? Loneliness is a drag.

Nicely put. smile

It's a subject that, although I don't dedicate a large amount of attention to, it still lingers in the small corners of my mind. More so lately. So many synchronicities, changes (internal and external), "new" people (strangely familiar), and most of important of all, I feel like I'm a little bit more in control (because I believe, something that many people have not learned yet...) of my reality-tunnel, as compared to before, thanks to what feels like my third eyelid being opened just a schmidge more. How have things been going for you??? How's the bass treating you?
