Took a roadtrip to the big city with my cousin J.

We took the scenic route, stopping in Sedona for a beautiful breakfast.

We flipped a coin to determine who would drive, I won. So I had the pleasure of riding shotgun, sipping papaya and vodka and staring out the window at the desert landscape (did I ever tell you that I hate driving?) Yeah, I'd much rather zone out on the sights. I also like to play DJ; I try to match the perfect soundtrack to whatever mood is inspired by what we see outside whizzing by. It's a mindgame, sounds kind of annoying doesn't it?

We got to Tempe around 10, deciding to check out IKEA, just for the hell of it. We wandered around for about 3 hours. I was pretty drunk. The place has dozens and dozens of "rooms", like little sets to display their furniture. Each room lent itself to its' own dramatic scenario. Like the "Gay Drug Dealer" room. Or the "Bipolar Game Show Host" room. Or the "Serial Killer Yuppie" room. I babbled on and on, scaring the children and amusing the hired help with my psycho/impromptu theatre.

After that -we cruised around town aimlessly, trying to settle on what we should do next.

We decided to hit the movies. We saw "The Number 23", which was, I don't know, uneven. I wouldn't recommend it. We were kind of unsatisfied, so we stuck around to see "The Astronaut Farmer". There were a total of four people (including us) in the whole auditorium for that one. It wasn't terrible. But I predict it's going to flop, hard.

We retreated to a little dive bar for some beer and wings. For some reason it was pretty slow in there. A middle-age woman in a tight black dress sauntered in and she turned out to be a fascinating conversationalist. My cousin was impressed by her knowledge of Alternative Medicine (she claimed to hold a degree in that field), I was impressed by her knowledge of Amsterdam coffeeshops. It's not often that you meet a woman in a dive bar that seems to know something about everything, then again I don't go to dive bars that often, and I don't talk to strange middle age women hardly at all. Which reminds me, I'm middle age, where have I been?

My cousin and I decided to see one more movie before heading home.

We went to see the documentary "Iraq In Fragments". Melancholy. Stark. Living in Iraq is an unenviable experience. Where I come from there is a lot of open hostility expressed toward Arabic people. But y'know, I'm pretty set in my ways. And it's not Iraqis that I have a problem with. No Muslim ever called me a spic. And no one is gonna tell me who I should fear. Fuck the war.
