One would assume people are basically the same wherever you go, but the differences between white folk in south florida and arizona are myriad. I'm not exactly a student of human nature, but all the nuances are significant enough to register as culture shock with me.
One of the first things I noticed about south florida is the absence of innumerable SUVs with confederate flag bumperstickers. I swear to you, I haven't seen a single one. White arizonans seem to have an affinity for the "stars 'n bars". Amazingly, many arizonans believe arizona is a southern state.
Another thing about south florida is that the white folk are a bit more tolerant. I've walked miles and miles in every direction exploring Ft. Lauderdale, and not once have I been assailed with racial slurs shouted at me from passing cars. People smile and wave. Cops leave me alone. Wierd.
Although I have some trepidation about moving here (because I only have one friend: "Phil thecomicbookshopguy" ), I think I could get used to this. I mean, white women here actually talk to me. But I still haven't found any decent mexican food restaurants, and good pizza is impossible to find. Also, the cost of car insurance is a ballbreaker.
Of course, there are some constants. The guitar shop guys here are all assholes, just like back home. And they still fuck up my order at Jack in the Box. And I probably couldn't get a convetional job here, the only other appreciable skill I have besides being a gangsta is building teeth in a dental lab (tediously boring).
Arizona =UFOs. Florida=white women. It's gonna be a tough choice to make.
