I just came back from a wedding this weekend, and I continue to wonder why being married is so significant a step in people's lives. It seems more like an empty fairy tale ideal than mutual love between two people.
Or maybe it's our constant need to justify ourselves to the people around us, so that we may be looked upon kindly in their eyes, or meet up with their ideals of life and be accepted into traditional western society.
And that gets me thinking, I always wonder why we have specific days in which we go out of our way and reach above and beyond the mundane... Christmas, Valentines, Anniversaries, Weddings, etc. Because the rest of our days seem so dull and mediocre. It's as though we choose those few days to do something 'special' and then fall back into our trivial day-to-day lives afterwards.
I think it's a failure to embrace the simple concept of living life, of treating life like a ritual, rather than using vacant religions to tell us how to focus our energy. Toss out your traditions, toss out your religious doctrines, abandon this curse of western idealism and...
...you'll have a good place to start living from.
~ Just some early morning thoughts.
