ANXIETY FILMS HOSTS 4th ANNUAL SHOCK-A-GO-GO FILM FESTIVAL: Nothing so appalling in the annals of film festival history!
Los Angeles, CA - December 3-4, 2004
GASP in HORROR as, for the fourth year in a row, Los Angeles based Anxiety Films schedules their annual Shock-A-Go-Go [formerly Shock-O-Rama-A-Go-Go] 24-hour film-a-thon this year for December 3-4, 2004. This unique, one-of-a-kind festival will take place at The Vine Theater (6321 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA). Doors will open at 7pm on Friday night and wont close until at least 2 A.M. on Saturday night/ Sunday morning.
SHRIEK in TERROR as Anxiety Films proudly announces a new precedent for the Shock-A-Go-Go festival: a predominance of 35 & 16 mm prints for your viewing pleasure. Though a few video projections are still on the bill, we are very excited to screen many very rare film prints for this years festival attendees.
TREMBLE with DELIGHT and TREPIDATION as Dita Dirtnap (Horror Host Drag-Queen) hosts this years Shock-A-Go-Go, which again positively bursts at the seams with celebrities and live entertainment. Guests include: BARAK EPSTEIN debuting his new film Prison-A-Go-Go, starring RHONDA SHEAR and MARY WORONOV with rare appearances by the lovely stars themselves as well as a number of additional surprise guests to shock and astonish you. Last but certainly not least this years dual-highlighted festival appearances are by none other than exploitation-cinema legends and bold raconteurs, ROGER King of the B's CORMAN (A Bucket Of Blood, Not of This Earth, Masque of the Red Death, Death Race 2000, et al), and self-professed Trash-Film King DAVID FRIEDMAN (She Freak, The Defilers and the upcoming 2001 Maniacs, et al)! These two explosively dynamic legends of film have been in the field of exploitation cinema since its infancy and have continued in this vein until present day! Individually, Mr. Corman and Mr. Friedman are on hand at Shock-A-Go-Go to field questions, and perhaps to regale us with stories of exploitation cinema lore!
BECOME VERY APPALLED on Saturday night as Shock-A-Go-Go festival features musical performances by such legendarily outlandish acts as TFMU, Mucus, and The Gabba Gabba Heys (Ramones Tribute). Destined to provoke even the most jaded of audiences you wont want to miss this!
SQUIRM in DELIGHTED AGITATION while Shock-A-Go-Go presents more than twenty films this year, including our Gross Out shorts program. As usual, Midnight Movie devotees will delight to old favorites such as Street Trash, Man From Deep River AKA Sacrifice, Burial Ground, The Scavengers, Rock and Roll High School, Detroit 9000, She-Freak, The Defilers, Not of This Earth, Masque of the Red Death, Please Dont Eat My Mother, Death Race 2000 - and many, many more! And, once again, Shock-A-Go-Go presents for those who loved ED WOOD long before his recent resurgence in popularity (and even for those who didnt), the camp classic Bride of the Monster.
PALPITATE with ANTICIPATION for coveted prizes and giveaways from select sponsors! These will be in high demand so come early and stay late! Also, a wide array of DVDs, videos, t-shirts, buttons, and an abundance of other B-movie and horror movie merchandise will be available for purchase. And, once again, all attendees are strongly encouraged, but by no means required, to come in costume a Shock-A-Go-Go tradition! Saturday night will feature a come dressed as Elvira costume contest benefiting AIDS research.
Past reviews of Shock-A-Go-Go festivals describe the anarchic celebration as:
Messyfrighteningeerierude, unruly, and anarchical [a] nonstop scarathon.
LA New Times
[Shock-A-Go-Go is a] grueling gross-a-thon [that] didnt disappoint, especially when the overnighters, sipping alcohol out of colostomy bags, began to talk to the screen, a la Mystery Science Theatre 3000.
- L. A. Weekly
And surely this politically troubled year will unearth veritable legions of twisted-movie-buffs eager to, as the LA Downtown News quoted Anxiety Films president ERIC S. EICHELBERGER as saying, get their aggression out - along with their fill of blatant sex, violence, and ultimate gore.
Anxiety Films fully encourages those with a thirst for exploitation cinema knowledge and history to stimulate their brains in an exciting series of lectures and subsequent Q&A sessions with the festivals special guests. This years line-up is legendary and most definitely a dont miss opportunity!
Shock-A-Go-Go tickets start at $25 in advance, but are also available at the door. However, we strongly suggest that you purchase your tickets in advance, as we again expect this event will sell out. Purchase tickets online at www.anxietyfilms.com (also available at Arons Records in Hollywood and Wacko AKA Soap Plant in Los Feliz). Ample parking is just $5 and is located across the street. Guests are encouraged to bring sleeping bags and pillows, and also to Audience Participate or as Anxiety Films organizer Eric S. Eichelberger likes to call it: yell insults back at the screen a la Mystery Science Theatre 3000. Those who seek a very quiet, serious cinema experience of quality Hollywood Studio fare are strongly encouraged not to attend Shock-A-Go-Go is definitely not for the meek and mild-mannered!!!
To avoid fainting, keep repeating "It's only a festival...It's only a festival..."
