Midori said she hates the Pill. I, personally, am extremely ambivalent about it.
On one hand, being on the Pill means all sorts of great things. Sex, whenever, wherever (more or less), without having to plan in advance, or pause for supplies or whatever. Very convienent. Also, it means little to no cramps, which is a big deal for me (the first time I got cramps, I honestly thought I was dying). And I know when my period is coming, almost down to the time of day, as opposed to not even being able to guess the month when I'm not on the Pill, which makes me very nervous. On the Pill, my period is no big deal. Three easy days, maybe. Off the Pill, not so easy. :menstruation: (had to do it, ladies and gentlemen) And it's the most reliable, reversable contraceptive on the market (when used strcitly as directed).
But, on the other hand, I don't like putting synthetic hormones into my body everyday. Especially not ones that have been honed down to this level by trial and error that resluted in a lot of crappy things happenign to a lot of women in the early years of the Pill. But then again, that's my opinion about contraceptives and pharmacuticals in general. The well-being of people, especially women, is secondary to profit (Did you know that nonoxynol-9 is a detergent, and is little better than Tide?). People are mostly grossly uninformed about their options. Then there's the mind-busting headaches, which may or may not be attributable to the Pill (but did anybody ask me about headaches in the beginning? Nope, it was "Let's hurry and get her on the Pill, so we can start making our money."). And, ya know, the occasional mood swings, especially whilst PMSing (but, grammatically speaking, isn't it almost always PMS time?
Anyway, it seems like the best option for me right now. And while I did enjoy life synthetic-hormone-free for a while, I'm enjoying baby-free life even more, and this is the best way to maintain that, as far as I'm concerned.
