I'm so glad I decided to give the Miami Film Festival another chance. I didn't go last year because the previous director of the Film Festival, Nat Chediak, had resigned and left the film festival in ruins because F.I.U. wanted to take the festival in a more commercial and mainstream direction. Well, they did that for the past two years and lost a lot of members. The year before last sucked ass. And last year they were playing Moulin Rouge, a mediocre movie as far as I was concerned that I could rent from Blockbuster. The point of the film fest was to introduce people to movies we probably wouldn't be able to see otherwise. Come on, people.

But I'm genuinely excited about this year's line-up. There's a movie from the lady who directed High Art -- Laurel Canyon, starring Frances McDormand. There's a movie featuring Gael Garca Bernal who should probably marry me. They're playing Stop Making Sense and Hairspray outdoors on the beach, which should be fun. They're screening a movie about the Brazilian drag queen Joo Francisco. There's going to be what is billed as an Italian "lesbian-themed thriller," and that's fine because it's actually made by a lesbian. And I'm really looking forward to The Dancer Upstairs.

I'm a movie geek. I sit through the credits if I like the movie. I can't wait. I hope Gael Garca Bernal is scheduled to come talk about the movie.
