What is the appropriate response to the following statement? "The Da Vinci Code is my favorite book." It's probably not, "Oh my god, that book was so stupid. I knew the ending ten pages into the book." That's what I said to my peers in Spanish 102. Well, you know, it's better than my initial thought, which was, "What, are you retarded?" The book reads like it's written for fifth graders. R.L. Stine has more talent than Dan Brown. I don't understand why he didn't just write a movie script! That's clearly why he wrote the book, in order to make big bucks off of selling the rights to Ron Howard. I should keep my big mouth shut. I keep alienating myself. I'm such an asshole. I don't know, my mom thought the book sucked. I remember when she read it, she kept throwing it across the room and saying, "This? This is a bestseller? What is WRONG with people?" And she claims that she isn't all that smart. If she's smart enough to realize The Da Vinci Code is a piece of shit book riddled with historical errors, than she's okay by me.
Oh god, this morning I accidentally pulled out part of my ma's birthday present -- The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides, because she said Middlesex was one of the best books she'd ever read -- in front of her and said, "Shit! You didn't see what I pulled out, did you?" And she replied with, "What, it isn't porn, is it?" And I said, "No, and I don't look at porn!" And she said, "Yeah, yeah, I know, you look at erotica." Heh. And then she told me about some art thing at MOCA called "Erotic Not Pornographic" and that we should go. My mom's pretty cool. I told her it was nothing of the sort anyway, that it was something she will not see until Monday.
But, yeah. I don't like porn-porn. It makes me feel dirty and uncomfortable when I see anything involving penetration. Why? I listened to too much Howard Stern during my formative years. I loved Howard Stern when I was a teenager, and I still do. And I'm happy that Clear Channel is putting Howard back on the air here in Florida, because that clip of Howard Dean screaming out other states he's going to take while Stern plays AC/DC had me laughing and laughing. Oh, and he played songs with states in it, like "Georgia on My Mind" and things like that and loop in Dean screaming. Ooh, funny stuff. Yeah, I think they took him off the air shortly thereafter. And it made me sad
But he's back! Soon! Possibly now? I should tune in.
I've decided that next to the All-Starr Rerun danceathon, my favorite thing on the fan edition Freaks & Geeks DVD set is the Q & A section during the Museum of Television of Radio thing. Some guy stands up and says to Linda Cardellini that if he were Cory Matthews, he would've picked Lauren over Topanga. That shit is funny.
