Info on an upcoming show of mine. Day 2 at 10:00pm - Dm.

Flaneur Productions presents:
Heliotrope, a two-day exhibition of underground and underexposed music

Franklin Art Works, 14 + 15 May 2004
1021 East Franklin Ave, Minneapolis
$7.00 per day or $12.00 for both days

Friday
12:30 White Map (featuring Zak Sally of Low and Scott Brown of Skin of
Earth/Noise Quean Ant)
11:00 TVBC (performing their live soundtrack to the 1920s Russian film, "Man
With A Movie Camera)
10:00 Dallas Orbiter (local out-pop outfit doing a conceptual piece designed
for the cavernous sonics of the venue)
9:30 Blitzen (new group led by Jason Kesselring of Skye Klad; think along
the lines of what would happen if Suicide and Spacemen 3 were roving revival
preachers)
9:00 Sean Connaughty (of Salamander, doing his unique solo acoustic music)
8:00 Milo Fine (local free jazz legend who needs no introduction)

Saturday
12:30 Rev. Angus Strychn (solo organ with two leslie speakers)
11:30 Salamander (long-form, eastern-influenced improvisational psychedelia
a la Ash Ra Tempel)
10:30 The Pins (local psych group, think Eno-meets-Flying Nun-meets-Can and
you're almost there.)
10:00 Dm (deep space voyages for guitar, sustainer pickups and homewritten
software)
9:30 Shit Fi (weirdo pop-psych-noise-rockers)
9:00 Michael Yonkers (again, a legend. You wish you could make a racket this
beautiful and this prophetic. Performing an all-new set of material!)
8:00 Eason (Pop psychedelia of the highest order. Recommended for fans of
Sonic Youth or Guided by Voices)
7:00 Salubrious Invertebrae (Analogue synth genius for fans of Tangerine
Dream or Klaus Schulze)
6:30 Davu Seru ( virtuoso local free percussionist)
5:30 (dinner break)
5:00 Brown Rainbow (improv collective sometimes involving up to 13 members
or more)
4:30 Andrew Lafkas
4:00 Jaron Childs
3:30 Charles Gillett
3:00 Jesse Petersen ( percussive, inventive solo guitar free-freakdom
reminiscent at times of Derek Bailey et al)
2:30 Paul Metzger (solo banjo improvisations; very unique and beautiful)
2:00 Barlow/Petersen/Wivinus (soundscape/soundtrackish improv guitar
triofeaturing members of Pins, Salamander, Skye Klad)
1:00 International Novelty Gamelan (modern music for Gamelan ensemble)

Sonically and musically, the music being presented here runs wide and deep,
as does the respect among its players. There are many unique styles
represented here, ranging from modern psychedelia and fluid, kinetic
kraut-rock stylings to pop-psychedelic songcraft through free music, folk
and free-folk and beyond to uncharted areas, such as modern compositions
forthe unique sounds of Gamelan instruments or adapting the much-maligned
banjo for music more suited to India and the Middle East than Appalachia by
adding some extra strings and a fresh musical vision for the instrument.

Maximalism, minimalism, conceptualism, improvisation, painstaking
songwriting, melody and noise will all be found in varying measurethroughout
the two days of the exhibition. There will also be a multimedia component at
times, with film projections and live film soundtrack being featured. For
those with adventurous tastes, this is bound to be one of themost exciting
and enjoyable events of the year, and having it draw exclusively from local
talent will make it all the more astonishing, as someof these artists do not
often have a venue for their unique work, or simply don't play out in town
very often.

The event will take place at Franklin Art Works in south Minneapolis on
Friday, 14 May and Saturday, 15 May. Advance tickets will be for sale at
select independent record stores in the weeks preceding the show. Prices
will be $12.00 for both days, with the option to pay $7.00 daily at the door
if that is your desire.
