I had one of the most artistically stimulating evenings of my life last night...

One project I'm particularly interested in is a theatre piece set almost entirely in darkness. This came out of reading about a restaurant in Berlin ("Unsicht Bar" - we Germans do love our puns) run by blind people, and the entire experience is dark. You pay in advance, are led in,...

Division in the ranks...

Where do we go from here?

Ranting about it on the mailing list, apparently.

If an artistic organisation no longer exists soley for the production of art... should it exist at all?
foz:
smile Then what do you think it should do? You haven't expressed an opinion until I pressed you for one. Your journal is full of questions. If you like, maybe you could offer another perspective rather than being vague and confrontational. If you really think about the art that has moved you most you will see that it is inherently based on exposing, distorting, rearranging, perceiving some sort of reality whether situational, emotional, natural, colorful, abstract...truth, art is truth...but it can be delivered through lies.

"All my lies are wishes."

What "artistic organization " are you talking about? Your job?? No organization can be solely for the production of art when money is involved.
annica1:
I ask questions because I am interested in the opinions of others. You have no right to accuse me of being confrontational after asking if I was high because I questioned your opinion.

The limits of what art can be is something I'm still working on. I'm not ready to define my aesthetic so clearly yet. If I felt that I knew exactly what was right and true, I wouldn't have bothered to pose the question.

The "artistic organization" is Naked Theater. We are a non-profit, concensus-based, experimental theater group... it's not my job, it's just my life.

Last night, around five in the morning, my three rather large wooden shelves (full of books, my stereo, sewing machine and surger, bottles of ink, etc.) came crashing down, ripping a large chunk out of the wall and depositing the shattered remains of my belongings all over my floor.

God hates me because I'm gay.
Right?

24 Hour Playz was a bit of a disaster....

I don't think art's primary goal is to mirror reality. That's what we have reality for, isn't it? Shouldn't art do more?

This weekend is 24 Hour Playz.
I get my prompts at six tomorrow, and will write from eight pm to eight am.
The show will be performed at nine Saturday night. The Naked Theater Triumvarite will write a musical... I look forward to...

not mirror reality, if you mirror something you aren't getting past the surface, are you high when you read this?
annica1:
First of all, don't insult me in my own journal. No, I'm not high. My opinion differs from yours, and you seem to have forgotten that it is just that: an opinion.
I, at least, do not produce art for people who walk through life completely oblivious. I think art can expose reality, create reality, or have no relation at all to reality and still be meaningful. Exposing reality is the absolute minimum of what art can and should do.

Why do we produce art?
It is easy to produce thoughtlessly. Is it immoral to do so?

Art is there to break you out of your life, to question what we are told to think and to believe. If art does not make you think, it isn't real. Is this true?

What is the point?
Does art have a political obligation?
A moral obligation? An...

True art exposes reality. That is art's only obligation.

then there is decorative art.

thoughtless art, well, we can't hide from all thoughtless gestures, do you think about how mindless our everyday is? do you contemplate every action? the opening of a door, the placement of your hands upon a steering wheel...there is room for all things, mindless and mindful, all are not and not is all

My roommate bedded my lead actress last night...

Why is it that when some people get high, they feel the need to talk about how high they are? I don't care how high you are. You're high. Fine. Move on with your life.

I hate morning rehearsals.

By the way, I love the West Wing (the old ones, anyway).

Bad roommate. Bad.

I don't know why people tend to like to share how high they are with others. I have friends who smoke a lot of weed, and they love to let others know how high they are. Not being a weed-smoker / drug-user myself, I have no idea.

I finally got around to sending in my Reed set, so we'll see how that works out. I like it, there are some great shadows, though I didn't have tattoos yet. I really want to shoot one in the library... once the show is over and I actually have time again... ha.

On the theatre front, I ended up replacing my lead with the guy...

AAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGH!
One of my actors... no, not one of my actors, my lead actor... just walked off the show two weeks in and my music director has to take over the part, because we have no one else who can do it.
So frustrating.
lefthanded:
What are you working on? Where?

Sorry for the long absence... theater has taken over my life, as usual. Orientation is this week, so we've been planning lots of publicity stunts (including a mime placement test, run by myself, as well as musical theater placement and method acting placement... for a brief moment, I think some people were even fooled into thinking they were real tests)

Classes start on Monday... I...

I'm actually updating this from work... seems like a really poor idea, but since my silly neighbours shut off their internet when they go away, I have no computer at home. (the advantages of actually paying for your wireless are becoming clear to me...)

Anyway, back from NC, which was HOT. YUCK. I can't wait for winter.

Successfully cohabited for a week. I expected her...

I'm ... emotionally stable. Weird... my roommate and I seem to be alternating on the nutty... first I'll freak out and she'll be ok, then the next day she'll freak out and I'll be fine, etc. I'm not sure if we're timing it so we can take care of each other, or if we set each other off...

My girlfriend says being mentally stable is...
