on a related note, i have this driveway that's bordered on one side by seriously overgrown shrubs. i nudge this border every day when i back out (because i don't see real well). the other day i was making a long trip down to my fiancee's family's farm and heard a strange scraping... turns out i'd taken an entire shrub with me. i'd pulled it out of the ground as i pulled away, because it had gotten caught on the tailgate. hadn't seen it yet because... well... my rearview mirror fell off last year, and i can't be arsed to fix it.
the important information you should take away from this post is that i drive a truck and my fiancee's family has a farm. i am RURAL here, people.

old people are kids, but sophisticated. i think that was the main point they were trying to convey in the simpsons with abe "grampa" simpson and that was why i was so surprised by what the lady said about responsibilities, and why i don't want to be like that. i loved your story about the old guy! that's the kind of thing i would expect, but of course why should i be expecting not to be surprised by someone who has lived at least twice as many years as i have?
when life rolls to a slow coast in new york you feel it like nothing else. you're constantly on the run here, any simple thing takes hours to do if you hurry, and events and meetings and simple evening-outs have to be coordinated so precisely sometimes as to make it ridiculous. what happened to meeting friends at the local watering hole every night? i do regret the simple life i left behind sometimes, but i never forget for a moment why i did it.
