It's been announced that a Spotify application has been released for the iPhone (and some other mobile phones). This basically means that if I choose to pay a 9.99 subscription I will have access to everything on Spotify wherever my laptop or phone can get internet, which is basically everywhere nowadays.

Does this mark the beginning of the end of actually buying music to keep? It's a thought..............if I have access to a vast library of music (which, if the service were successful, could only expand further) wherever I am whenever I want for a small fee, what is the point of actually purchasing CDs or digital downloads?

I can't imagine not owning the music I like. It seems alien to me. But then again I'm getting old. Will the generations below me think the same way? We are already seeing established acts like Nine Inch Nails, The Charlatans & Radiohead giving away their albums as free mp3s because they make more money from increased touring revenues when they do this. It makes one wonder where we'll be in ten or twenty years time.....

Thats an interesting point, I too must be getting past it, cos I still like to own the cd's but at the same time, I see where your coming from here, many kids today like to just download and swap files with their friends.

I dont think its a bad thing, but if it means the end of album art is in sight, that will be a shame. Also I think that it will not be so special waiting for a new release when our fave bands are announcing them, cos we dont have to nip to the shop or even order online, now we can pre-order a download lol
