Last night I realized that taxes are due tomorrow. I began collecting my stuff, but one my my W2s was missing. Great. I tear my apartment to pieces looking, but I don't find it.

I do, however, find that a lovely black widow spider has chosen to escape the rain by setting up camp behind my bookshelves. She has also experience the miracle of giving life. Or, in this case, lives.

Great, so I've lost a W2 but gained a herd of poisonous spiders. And I can't do anything about it. My grandfather instilled in me that one NEVER kills spiders . . . it is incredibly bad luck, and the the offender will be cursed with many horrible fates. Black widows are not the most sociable of arachnids, so Ms. Widow and sons/daughters run away from me when I try to coax them into my Spider Transportation Vessel (i.e. pint glass) so that I can return them to a more natural habitat.

I had to give up and go online to file. Thank god for paperless filing . . . and for employers who allow you access to your tax info online. I got my taxes filed with no problem, and Uncle Sam will get his goddamned $3.

I spent a long time today talking to my new spider friends about living arrangments. If they continue to live behind the bookcase and promise NEVER to EVER go anywhere else in the apartment, I'll leave them alone until the weather gets nice and I can devote an adequate amount of time to non-violently removing them. I know there are mouse traps that just catch and enclose mice until they can be released . . . maybe there's a version for spiders too. whatever

Last spider I saw around here told me: Vos fugam capietis, et ego vadam immolaris pro vobis.

Now this is glorious. It is not as if one had found a back-up of the Alexandria Library, but ... That is a great beginning.
