[rant] I'm really getting tired of apathy and bitterness. Why is it so fucking cool to look down on people for being happy? If someone takes joy from the simpler things in life, why give that person shit for it?
I see this attitude all the time at school. Nobody wants to learn or be passionate about anything. They're too "cool." It's much more fun to sit back and make sarcastic one-liners at the expense of the foolish and unenlightened people who do give a fuck about something.
And I really see too much of that attitude on this site. I read a thread about American Idol last night. Now, I hate American Idol; it encapsulates what bothers me about pop culture (don't worry; that's a different rant). Still, I'm glad that the people on the show get to do what they love best and have a shot at achieving their dreams . . . I've seen the show, and most of them are *very* talented. So, I read this thread last night, and people are slamming the competitors, saying horrible, cruel things about how they're all talentless hacks. C'mon, kids. Just because the performance doesn't move *you* doesn't mean it isn't worth something. Lots of people are moved by that show, and I think that's worth something. Similarly, I'm tired of seeing all the bashing of religion and the Pope on this site. If you disagree, fine. But why go out of your way to be cruel and try to belittle the people with whom you disagree?
