Had a lovely chilled braai at Richard's place last night. Met his new housemate, Eugene, & Rich broke us the news of the new "interest" in his love-life. Her name is Roz. She used to go out with Ashton Nyte - the lead singer of the South African goth band, The Awakening. Very attractive girl, & apparently extremely down-to-earth as well.
Anyway, she recently relocated to the city of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, as a primary school teacher (for a salary THREE TIMES what she was getting paid locally!) According to Wikipedia, "the emirate of Abu Dhabi is the largest of the seven emirates that compose the United Arab Emirates, with an estimated 80% expatriate population". Rich reckons the capital city itself is only about an hour's drive through the desert from the city of Dubai in the adjoining Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The reason I'm going into detail about all of the above is because Rich is actually flying over to Abu Dhabi tomorrow - to spend a week's holiday getting to know Roz betterNow from what I can gather, they haven't actually hooked up on a physical level yet, but the spark of romance is obviously there & it's pretty inevitable what's going to happen next - especially since he's booked into the swanky Hilton Hotel, darling!!
When Ange died 11 months ago, I didn't think I'd ever be able to picture Rich with another woman. As one of my best friends, & knowing how protective she was of her man, I felt I owed it to Ange to make it as difficult as possible for any other woman to worm her way into his heart! But as time went by, I came to realise how terribly lonely he was - rattling around in that big old house all by himself - & I made the decision to let Life take its course. Because no matter what happens, we all know that Ange was a one-in-a-million chick, & no-one can EVER take away his enduring love for & memory of her. The new lady in his life will just have to be strong enough to co-exist beside it.
Over the past 6 months or so, Rich has had his fair share of propositions from lusty female admirers, but until Roz came along, well, he was still working through the grieving process & just wasn't ready to get romantically involved again. So now with this new chapter unfolding, Lee & I are trying to be as supportive as possible. Because if there is one thing that I now know Ange would've wanted me to do, it'd be to make sure her man finds all the love & happiness that we ALL deserve.
On that note, I thought I'd leave you with a rather pertinent quote from the original rebel without a cause, Mr yummy James Dean himself : "Dream as if you'll live forever.
