Had an (unexpectedly, ie. unplanned) fab weekend smile

On Saturday Lee took me for lunch at the little Woolworths Cafe in Hyde Park. We absolutely LOVE their healthy lunchtime pay-by-weight buffet. On our way out we noticed that Exclusive Books was having one of their awesome sales, so we decided to treat ourselves - with a paperback on Artificial Intelligence "for him", & a biography on Aleister Crowley & magick "for her" wink

Then we went through to Clearwater Mall where he bought me a really cute, frilly, fuschia pink teddy with black satin bows to wear on Valentine's Day. Plus a cool Iron Fist trucker's cap in fire-engine red with skulls all over it. I've always been told I look good in sunglasses & headgear, & I've been wanting one of these caps for ages now smile

That night we went through to Melville with Nick & Natasha where we did a good old-fashioned pub crawl - starting off at Tokyo Star, moving onto Ratz, then Berlin - & finally rounding off the evening with a post-midnight chow-down at Catz Pyjamas. It was my first time there ever (yup, can you believe it - after nearly 4 years of living in Jozi, I was still a virgin of one of its oldest & coolest 24-hour gastronomic institutions!), & I reckon they do the BEST chicken livers I have EVER tasted.

Sunday was spent watching the Indonesian A1 GP, & recovering from a slight hangover (one too many Melville cocktails, it seems!) Then at 6pm we headed through to Greenside where we joined Ronwen, Colin, & a whole bunch of their mates for Ro's farewell dinner at Karma - a very cool little Indian restaurant on the main strip. Richard also managed to join us. It was wonderful seeing him again. He seems to be coping really well, under the circumstances...

Lee & I had our usual prawn korma with basmati rice (we like to compare one restaurant's version to another's), which was nice, but the company was definitely better. One of Ro's colleagues, Grant (an accountant), also owns a morgue in one of the townships. It was fascinating talking to him about this line of work. I asked him how I would go about getting into the art of painting up & dressing bodies for viewing at their memorial service or funeral, as it is a vocation I have been seriously considering for quite some time now. He told me it is actually part of the embalming side of the business, & that I should email him sometime & we could talk further. Which reminds me - I must get his contact details from Ro before she leaves for Heathrow tomorrow...

Other than that, not much more to tell. Oh, except that I have ordered our Boerboel pup for when we move into our new house (Oct / Nov)! I found this really great place on the East Rand (near Johannesburg International Airport), called Induna Boerboel Breeders. Induna means "chief" in Zulu. Boerboel, loosely translated, means "big farmer's dog" in Dutch. We definitely want a male, & have already decided that we are going to call him Monty (after Lee's late granddad, Monty Geffen, & my favourite F1 driver, Montoya)! This is a good example of what these magnificent boys can grow to look like; this particular specimen's name is Dopper Darco:

Isn't he just the most handsome thing ever!?

Oh, well, till next time kiss
kaijou:
Hi there! Boerboel are the most adorable dogs, apart from Pekingese (that is if you like small dogs ....)!

Let's stay in touch since we are both from Joburg.

SG Love and Kisses,

Marisa
